Check out this thread. It will tell you how to import into Media Player. But I think your problem could be having the songs in the wrong file type, and the thread also gives advice on how to change file types!

I use vlc player. I would say that is it one of the best media players out there with its light-weight design and customizable interface. I used it for quite a white and it never had any bugs or crashes. Check out the vlc player download page if interested
