Ok so there's this keyword I want to take over with a site. I'm building a kickass site that will be an awesome resource and tool and super relevant for the keyword. One of the best in the market most likely. Probably will get good linkage naturally from this and intend to work at it hard over time.

I'm not experienced in seoing a site to this level though so I thought perhaps someone with some good experience may be able to tell me the possibility of getting into the #1 position within a few years of working at it pretty steadily.

Its a subdomain site of about.com

The page has PR6 and 404k backlinks 22 from edu and govs. Keyword well optimized but not in the url and not in a header. It has mostly links from PR 3 and 4 with a bunch of 5 and 6s and 1 PR8 from about.com itself probably a huge number of PR 0-2. I suppose I can't see more than 1000 links since that's all yahoo shows. Almost none of the links seam use the exact keyword term though they use a variation.

So what do you guys think with great effort is this one doable after a couple years perhaps or just a pipe dream?

And if #1 is perhaps too high of a hope what about #2 it has 3200 backlinks and very few strong links
