Default Windows 7 not recognizing Polaroid a330?

I bought a brand new HP laptop for my mom, it has Windows 7, only a couple months old.

She was given a Polaroid a330 digital camera by her sister, and whenever she plugs it in via the USB cord, it pops up a window that says "Device installed unsuccessfully" and "Windows does not recognize this device" I've done remote assist to try and figure out what the problem is, but to no avail. Here's what we've tried so far:

- Trying to find drivers. The only drivers provided on the disk are only for users using Windows 98se. Haven't found any online anywhere, including Polaroid's website.

- Uninstalling device from Device Manager, shutting down the computer, plugging in the camera and turning it on, then rebooting the computer. (On the Device Manager, it'll have the the yellow triangle with the exclamation mark along with "Unknown Device" When looking at Troubleshoot it says "Windows Code 43")

- Made sure that all updates were installed along with all drivers for Intel Chipsets, USBs and anything else with the name Intel were up to date.

- Various methods of unplugging and/or plugging into different USB ports.

- Installing the small software program (media editor type) from the CD (Arcsoft) that came with the camera.

- Using "Add Device" via Control Panel (never finds anything)

At this point, I would have hurled it out of a window and purchased one that will actually be compatible, but alas, it's not mine to do that with. I've recommended she contact the geek squad at Best Buy and ask to see where the problem is. I know for a fact that it's not the computer causing this mess.

If anyone has any other ideas or suggestions, they are greatly appreciated!

Hello, I have the same issue, and searching the net suggests no few do.

Typical of a legacy brand name product now in the depths of offshoring, there is no support at all, and attempting to find drivers for this toy has been utterly fruitless.

I just wanted to bump the thread, and hope that someone has an answer.

BTW, I have attempted both an XP Pro and Vista OS USB capture, and no joy on those either...
