 How Do I Find My Pocket PC's MAC Address?
One of the best ways to secure your wireless network at home or at the office is to lock down the wireless connections by MAC address. A MAC, or Media Access Control, address is a 12-digit alphanumeric code that is unique to each piece of networking hardware, including wired Ethernet adapters and wireless Wi-Fi adapters. If your Pocket PC has Wi-Fi, either built-in or external, the adapter has a MAC address.
Finding your Pocket PC's MAC address depends on your specific model, but the process is largely the same across all models. In this tutorial, the Pocket PC used is the Dell Axim X50v running Windows Mobile 2003 SE.
First, navigate to the Settings > Connections menu:
From the Connections menu, find and select your Pocket PC's WLAN utility. In our case, this is the Dell WLAN Utility, but other adapters will have different titles.
From the WLAN Utility, look for the Advanced for Information tab. This tab should contain the adapter's MAC address:
If you're using an external adapter, and cannot find the device's MAC address by the method shown above, consult your product literature for additional instructions. Also check the sticker on your adapter card as this may contain information on the MAC address. |
