Default How to Change the Name of Pocket PC and Windows Mobile Smartphone

When you sync a touchscreen Windows Mobile Pocket PC or Smartphone with a computer for the first time, ActiveSync (Windows XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center (Vista) creates a partnership with the device, generally under a pre-set name "Pocket_PC" or "WINDOWS_MOBILE." If you want to change this name, you can do so by tapping the Start button, selecting Settings, and then tapping the System tab.

From the System menu, tap the About icon and select the "Device ID" or "Device name" field. Here you can rename your Windows Mobile Smartphone or Pocket PC.

This should be done before creating a partnership on your computer for the first time. If you've already set up a partnership between your Windows Mobile handheld and your computer, you will have to set up a new partnership if you change the name.

NOTE: This applies only to Windows Mobile PDAs (Pocket PCs) and Smartphones.
