Default "Black Screen of Death" on my Sony Vaio (Windows Vista) HELP!?

I've had my sony vaio for a little over a year, and I've never had this problem. I was on photoshop, and my computer froze, and I was forced to restart my computer. When I did, it froze upon startup, and now every time I try to start up my computer, it gets past the VAIO screen, the startup options screen (Safe mode, Normal mode, etc.) And then the green loading bar. After that, it goes to a black screen where only the cursor shows, and I can't do anything, and it won't go past that. I've done the f8 options, and gone through every one that's safe mode and below. The only option that let's me do anything is the "Repair my Computer" option. Under that, the only option I can do is "Completely Restore my PC" or something close to that. I believe its the third option down on the list. I have no backup files listed, and I'm not sure if I have them anywhere, or if I do what I should type in to find them.

Any help as to what I should do to get my computer to start up and actually get to the log-in screen?

I would really rather not have to resort to the option where all my files get wiped, because I have a lot of very important files on my computer.

(Yes, yes I know if I had important files, I should have had an external drive or something, but I never got around to it, so okay, karma on me, no need to say it)
