These directions are for ripping a CD to another CD, but it also gives the steps for just ripping music files from a CD!

Copying CDs using the Windows Vista operating system is an pastime that most computer users are familiar with. The process of copying a CD to a CD is just a matter of transferring files from one physical disc to another by way of computer. This can easily be done in a substantial amount of time by using the Windows Media Player 10 multimedia audio playback platform.
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

  1. Step 1
Open Windows Media Player 10. Double-click on the "Windows Media Player 10" icon that should be located on your computer's desktop screen. (If you do not see the icon, please refer to the Additional Resources below.)
  2. Step 2
Insert the CD. When Windows Media Player 10 opens, place the CD you desire to copy into the computer's CD-ROM drive door. Close the door and allow the computer to detect the CD. Once the CD is detected, the song list for the CD will appear in the middle pane of Windows Media Player 10.
  3. Step 3
Click on the "Rip" action tab once the CD's song list appears in the middle pane of Windows Media Player 10. (Rip simply means to copy the songs from the CD.) You will see an elapsed time estimator appear on the right side of each song, giving you the ability to see the progress of the rip process. When the rip process is complete, eject the CD by opening the CD-ROM drive door.
  4. Step 4
Insert the CD-R. Once the CD-R is detected by the computer click on the "Burn" action tab in the top navigation menu. The "Burn" pane will appear on the right side of the screen. Highlight the ripped songs from the CD. Drag the highlighted region to the "Burn" pane on the right side of the screen.
  5. Step 5

Burn the songs to the CD-R. (Burning is the technical terminology for copying songs to a CD-R.) Once the songs are listed in the "Burn" pane, click on the "Start Burn" action at the bottom of the song list. The CD-R will eject automatically once the burn process is complete.
I hope this helps!

You shouldn't have to install 3rd party software.

Media player will do what your asking.
