Default Technical Question on Upgrading Windows Vista to Windows 7?

I have a 3 year old HP Pavilion dv9420 laptop that runs on 32-bit Windows Vista Home edition and HP will no longer provide tech support because it is out of warranty. My laptop was infected by virus and it could not booting up. I took the infected laptop to the GeekSquad and they charged me $300 to remove the virus, because they said it was a a very difficult virus to remove that took them almost a week to resolve the problem. After removing the virus, my laptop takes more than 9 minutes to boot up!!! I took the laptopn back to GeekSquad and they said the problem is due to corrupted Windows System Files damaged by the virus, and they wanted another $200 to repair the corrupted system files. If they had told me in advance that it would cost me $500 to repair my virus infected laptop, i would rather spend the money to buy a new laptop. Instead of spending money to repair the corrupted Vista system files, i am thinking about upgrading to Windows 7 because Microsoft Window 7 Advisor software indicated my laptop is Windows 7 compatible. I am told that i should use Windows 7 Upgrade rather than doing a new install, in order to keep the existing software drivers for easy updating. Here are my questions, and i hope someone who is technically knowledgeable and competent can help me:

1) Is it fairly easy to restore Vista system files from HP's partitioned back up recovery drive?
2) Is it fairly easy someone not computer knowledgeable to Upgrade from Vista to Windows 7?
3) Is it advisable to Upgrade to Windows 7 WHEN the current Vista system files are corrupted?
4) Can i upgrade to 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium, if my laptop is now running on 32-bit Vista?

PLEASE provide your answers Only IF you have actual experience and actual knowledgeable to help me with my situation because i am still very upset with GeekSquad's unethical business practice to read non-helpful answers. Thank you sincerely in advance.
