Default Antivirus Soft virus Windows XP, please help me!?

I have the Antivirus Soft virus on my year old Windows XP. I tried Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, but I aborted scanning in the middle (my impatience gets the better of me...) and just removed everything that was detected, thinking that the virus would be in there. I have sent all important documents to my email address and put them on my mass usb storage, just in case I need to wipe out my computer...

What do I do now?

(note: I'm not a technologically advanced person, so I'd really appreciate it if you gave me easy step by step directions with no confusing tech-speak. Thanks much)
